Premio Afrodite

For the fourteenth year at the Studios, the birthplace of the ceremony, the Premio Afrodite stage was set aglow, celebrating and elevating female excellence in cinema, fiction, and entertainment. In 2016, the event bravely expanded to include journalism, communication, and sports, all through a female perspective. It stands as a tribute to the extraordinary women who have not only made a permanent imprint on the Italian entertainment landscape but also advocated for social causes and the empowerment of women.

This year’s esteemed honorees included Simona Barbieri, Paola Cortellesi, Carolina Crescentini, Piera Degli Esposti, Matilde Gioli, Myrta Merlino, Laura Morante, Violante Placido, Ludovica Rampoldi, Rosella Sensi, and Ilaria Spada.

The Premio Afrodite, envisioned and promoted by the Association of Women in Audiovisuals, established twenty years prior in 1996 as the Italian chapter of Women in Film International, remains a guiding light illuminating the achievements of women in cinema and the broader visual arts. Esteemed directors such as Cristina Comencini, Francesca Archibugi, and Maria Sole Tognazzi have been recognized, as well as illustrious actresses like Margherita Buy, Alessandra Martines, Stefania Rocca, among many others.
